Little Holes
04:07
|
|||
stuffed animals in candle stores
clay figurines in tiny drawers
you always had a rough time fitting in
.
shaking in your bed like you couldn't stop
drinking half-a-gallon in a single pop
the doctor says you did it on purpose
your eyes always made our mom nervous
now I'm certain you're stuck on the surface
** little holes in our seams rip a little more each year
** hand-me-down pair of jeans and a shirt your girlfriend used to wear
loud angry songs from tiny rooms
thought you killed our cat so you dug her a tomb
you don't talk a lot about your mind
.
pierce yourself for fun when you're in the mood
playing with a baby cause he understood
the doctor says you need more pills
the other ones couldn't quite kill
now I'm hoping you never will
** little holes in our seams rip a little more each year
** hand-me-down pair of jeans and a shirt your girlfriend used to wear
** how you love your routines, how you hate those people that stare
** never trust my machine, and don't listen to me, I'm never there
frustrated, am I wrong or can I help
am I on my own trying to discover what it is you're thinking about?
stand my ground, cause even if I'm wrong I wouldn't tell
I apologize but I'm pretty sure he's in your hands now
mom doesn't think you should come back home
cold hospital bed on your own
thirty-seven advil did the trick
crying on the floor like it really hurt
messing with your sister cause she did it first
the doctor says take another class
this time maybe you could just pass
but I'm thinking, we need more than that

Loveless
04:00
|
|||
cheek up, pat down
I don't wanna grow up anymore
kicked out, oh the curb ain't comfy
I just wanna go home
stand firm so that makes one of us
I kinda thought by now I'd have some muscles too
but I can drive and I can die
oh, just as easy
everyone's ears bleed eventually
how my fingers all are calloused
look how bad my hands can shake
lose a lot of blood and at this point
I think I can get used to the give and take
stand firm so that makes one of us
I kinda thought by now I'd have some muscles too
but I can drive and I can die
oh, just as easy
everyone's ears bleed eventually
** loveless paper thin
** scratch card, lemme in
** all this waiting
** I'll wait forever
bottom of the ninth and I need your help
at the bottom of the night, and I'm finding myself
in a basement bottled up cobweb filth
I'm a mess of a man and I'm running out of shelf life
bottom of the ninth and I need your help
at the bottom of the night, and I'm finding myself
in a basement bottled up cobweb filth
I'm a mess of a man and I'm running out of man
** loveless paper thin
** scratch card, lemme in
** all this waiting
** I'll wait forever

Landscaping
04:48
|
|||
I'm counting off the killers that can cross me off their list
I'll save them all the trouble, with this weapon in my fist
it's my doubt, sharpened like a blade
give it one swift scissor at the bottom of my heart
let it drain out empty like it was at the start
it's all a cycle, spinning like a blade
we're all like grass under a mower
we all fall away
** you say that I don't have to die
** I have a hard time believing that
** I am paralyzed by fear
** and a lot more fact
planning of the funeral that never should occur
but let's say that it does, why the hell would I ask her
to do my eulogy?
aren't we all dying at a slow and steady pace?
what's the point of living if tomorrow is a waste,
unless we're changing?
sometimes I need a hug at the end of the day
sometimes I just want someone to tell me I'm okay
or that I'm gonna be
even if you lie tell me I'm gonna be
** you say that I don't have to die
** I have a hard time believing that
** I am paralyzed by fear
** and a lot more fact
do you ever look at someone and pretend you never knew
the half of who they are
and tell them they're enough for you
grit your teeth and say it till you both believe it
grit your teeth and say it till you both believe it
** you say that I don't have to die
** I have a hard time believing that
** I am paralyzed by fear
** and a lot more fact

Recycling
03:59
|
|||
nothing works like it used to
the styrofoam town where we all bought a house
was meant to be used and thrown away
where do we hide our trash
when the ocean’s filled to the brim
there is no room in space for empty plastic bins
take it out on your mother
the toys in your room that helped make it through
were packed in a bag and thrown away
what’ll you tell your kids
when they ask how you grew up
was there any room on the shelf for empty plastic cups
do you ever wonder why
we were built for leaving?
and the glass to break your fall
just keeps you bleeding?
and the courage to ask the sky
is still receding?

Wheat Penny
04:24
|
|||
I'm at this end of my rope, threaded down to strings
the conversation whittles down to ordinary things
another solitary hour starts to grow wings
apartments dry as their starlit magazines
who I am and where I've been
are two completely different things
I can try but I never will reconcile the dreams
of who I wished you were inside
whoever that is you've amounted to be
** I waited but you never came
** a laden life is taking place
** you traded all our summer days
** for staying far out of the rain
found a wheat penny in my pocket, and I found it strange
a used-to-be rarity is common if you keep your change
all to yourself in a bottle outside drinking range
just close enough to absolve all your hunger pangs
** I waited but you never came
** a laden life is taking place
** you traded all our summer days
** for staying far out of the rain

The Pond
06:03
|
|||
deep in my heart I’m stuck in my ways
when the exits are down for construction
I'm headed for the next state
the road that I’m on seems to go on for days
in times of despair is it fair
to pick a lane where I can wait?
** oh Lord, will we ever see the end of this?
** will you heal my eyes with your kiss?
** is our home put on hold?
deep in the pond you thought something stirred
but evening has proved insufficient
so leave without a word
the wind loves your voice,
and you wanted to be heard
in times of confusion is it true we head north like a bird?
** oh Lord, will we ever see the end of this?
** will you heal my eyes with your kiss?
** is our home put on hold?
** oh Lord, will we ever see the end of this?
** will you swallow my emptiness?
** is our home put on hold?
the cracks from my past are now in front of me
I’m nothing like the man I was gonna be
dirt from the forest is skirting my floor
and I can’t sweep it up with my atrophy
right now the loneliness is getting evident
any word of yours at this point would be heaven-sent
my body is wasting but my heartbeat is racing
these caves are much deeper than they’ve ever been
oh these caves are much deeper than they’ve ever been

Shadow
04:08
|
|||
you have a shadow to remind you
there is light pushing through
when your eyes are as dark
as the coldest part of the night
plea with the timing love,
it's only a play of sight
when the rain comes on like bullets to your wind
don't be surprised, it's just the world we're in
I saw your shadow on the back of your back porch falling apart
I saw you come in but I didn't see you coming until you were falling apart
when your eyes are as dark
as the coldest part of the night
plea with the timing love,
it's only a play of sight
when the rain comes on like bullets to your wind
don't be surprised, it's just the world we're in
in the quiet
I want our hearts to beat the same
so when you're dying
we can get out of this place
you were crying
and it meant everything to me
cause in the quiet
I was the thing that let you be
alive
we're alive

Shooting Star
04:48
|
|||
** you watched a shooting star fall between two colliding planes
** when the moon came up to swallow the sun
** we watched Adventure Time on the neighbors crappy distant wifi
** but your eyes were looking for more
** you're looking for more
the moon doesn't set when you want it to
it's got no one keeping it down
when through the trees you're squinting to see
whether it's winking at you or at me
.
know that you mean miles more than you say
my words don't mean anything
when I'm thinking back
the back of your head
is all that I saw that time
** you watched a shooting star fall between two colliding planes
** when the moon came up to swallow the sun
** we watched Adventure Time on the neighbors crappy distant wifi
** but your eyes were looking for more
** you're looking for more
everyone comes from the same place
we're all shooting stars in our minds
this isn't all everything I will ever be
.
know that you mean miles more than you say
my words don't mean anything
when I'm thinking back
the back of your head
is all that I saw that time
** you watched a shooting star fall between two colliding planes
** when the moon came up to swallow the sun
** we watched Adventure Time on the neighbors crappy distant wifi
** but your eyes were looking for more
** you're looking for more
you're looking for more
don't keep to yourself
it's killing me
it's killing me
it's killing me slow
don't keep to yourself
it's killing me
it's killing me
it's killing me slow
